“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” – First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America
The above cited first amendment was instantly conjured up as I read Ben Carson’s bigoted comments. The framers of the U.S. Constitution obviously set these provisions in place so that no one religion can in any instance, outweigh another. Research into why these provisions were set in place, will be of great avail to the researcher and seeker of actual facts. The word “bigot”, according to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary is defined as:
“A person who strongly and unfairly dislikes other people, ideas, etc. : a bigoted person; especially : a person who hates or refuses to accept the members of a particular group (such as a racial or religious group)”
On this Sunday’s edition of NBC’s “Meet the Press”, Chuck Todd, the show’s host, asked Mr. Carson whether a president’s faith should matter (a trap question considering the first amendment). Ever since Donald Trump, the GOP frontrunner and outspoken billionaire was asked Thursday by a Euro-American bigot about when the country could “get rid of” its Moslem citizens, the question of how the Republican presidential candidates approach Islam has been asked in typical media hot button fashion.
Mr. Carson, who has slipped into third place by GOP presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina in the latest CNN/ORC poll of the Republican presidential field that was released Sunday, said a president’s faith would matter to him depending on what that faith is (falling into the trap). Mr. Carson would state:
“If it’s inconsistent with the values and principles of America, then of course it should matter,” he said. “If it fits within the realm of America and is consistent with the Constitution, I have no problem.”
His premise is one of bigotry as he feels that Islam, as a religion, is incompatible with the Constitution. He gave this assertion in that regard:
“I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that…”
Mr. Carson’s views are in fact bigoted and no doubt are based upon his pandering to his largely right wing Christian Republican base that is for the most part, anti-Islamic. These anti-Islamic views which breed vitriolic rhetoric (especially when we are dealing with American politics), that are held by Republican right wing Euro-Christians, are repugnant and vehemently un-American (via the first amendment). This view is in fact a “majority” view and shows us that the great experiment called the “American Republic” has, since inception, failed many of us horribly. If my opinion is taken as biased for whatever reason, then our current President, Barack Hussein Obama should be an exemplary case in point. During both presidential campaigns (2008, 2012), our President was accused of being a Moslem no matter how many times he denied these accusations. At a recent campaign rally in Rochester, New Hampshire, Donald Trump was asked this question by a bigot:
“We have a problem in this country. It’s called Muslims,” an unidentified man who spoke at a question-and-answer town hall event in Rochester, New Hampshire asked the mogul at a rally Thursday night. “You know our current president is one. You know he’s not even an American.”
A seemingly amused Trump interrupted the man, chuckling, “We need this question? This is the first question?” As opposed to correcting the man in the same fashion that John McCain did in the 2008 presidential race. The bigot then stated and asked his hate filled question, clad in a “Trump” T-shirt:
“Anyway, we have training camps growing where they want to kill us, that’s my question: When can we get rid of them?”
These dog-whistle cries not only reignite and stoke the racial embers that still smolder in a majority of the “Red-State” European-Americans who have the misnomer as “white” in this nation, but it also invokes the relationship between Islam and the Moors, who are also called by the misnomer “black” and “African American” in this nation.
For the record, any views held by those purporting to be “Muslims” that are not aligned with the Great Koran of Prophet Mohammed, is, without doubt or equivocation, anti-Islamic. Islam should be gauged by what its text (Koran) says as opposed to the disconnected ideologies of terrorists, radicals, and extremists, who by the way, were spawned out of the actions of people called “Jews/Israelis” today and their displacing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Palestine in 1948. This single event created a destabilized region and produced the radicals who feel that they should fight the powers to be which today represents U.S. backed Israel, and all of its allies.
Those who fit the aforementioned should in no way shape or fashion be considered Islamic as Islam means peace. If “Islamic extremists” is the phrase used by right-wing Euro-Christian citizens of the United States, then “Christian extremists” should be the term used for anyone who says that we should “get rid” of the Moslems in the United States of America as such vitriol, has several implied implications.
A history lesson for Mr. Ben Carson, et al.
Islam was widely practiced in the colonial South. Adherents of Islam never referred to themselves as Negroes, Blacks, or Colored, or any other name that deludes to slavery. They referred to themselves “Moors”. Many records that can be found in the annals of American history highlight this fact.
“In 1539, the first-ever land crossing of the US was completed by Azenmouri, a Muslim Berber. In 1654, English explorers reported a colony of bearded people in North Carolina who called themselves “Moors” and dropped to their knees to pray while working silver smelting operations. In 1670, “Turks and Moors” were excluded from slavery the Virginia National Assembly. On March 3, 1753, Abdel Conder and Mahamut petitioned in Arabic for their freedom from slavery in South Carolina. On June 28th, 1786, a Declaration of Naval Peace between the Moors and America was signed by Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Taher Ben Abdelhack Fennish. In 1787, a Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the Cherokees and the US government was signed by Abdel Khak and Muhammad Ibn Abdullah. And on January 20, 1970, the Free Moors Act allowed Moors to be tried as South Carolina citizens rather than under the Negro Act. Islam was clearly thriving on this land…”
Article 9 of King George’s II Laws of Virginia of Oct. 22nd, 1748 were stated as such:
The reason why “Moor”, “negro”, and “Mohametan” are distinguished is because the Moors were Islamic and founders of the Islamic faith and creed. Turks (called Arabs today) were, at this time simply called “Mohammedans” and so Moor also implies ethnicity (read of free Moors and Turks in S.C. here and here). Prophet Mohammed and most of his family and tribe were in fact Moors or what is popularly (but falsely) called “black people.” Those classified as “negroes” on this land, were given this name by Christians in Europe to those Moors (so-called “blacks”) who converted to Christianity and had from that time, accepted that label while the Moorish Moslems of the Islamic faith, knew better. Many records of the colonial south will show that these Moors were in fact counted among the citizenry, and, because of their faith, especially after many colonial laws began to limit the rights of so-called “negroes”, were given the same status as so-called “white” people in this nation. “White” is now, (and black) like it was then, a social status and before 1681, there is no mention of a “white” person in the colonies at all. Europeans were called on this land either “Christian” or “English.”
In fact, Moors, practitioners of Islam, although no difference in appearance than any other descendant of Africa on this land, were even given “white” status on this land, largely based on the Treaty of Peace and Friendship with the Sultan of Morocco. This proves that such a status that we have today as “white” is a sociopolitical construct and not based on ethnicity at all. Moors on this land are descendants of Moroccans and born in America and those who understood their national descent jurisdiction in those times (as opposed to Christian Moors who were labeled “negroes” and later stripped by the states of their rights), could acquire a “certificate of status” and was able to participate in all the regular civic duties as any other citizen here.
If a “black” person can be viewed as “white” (See also Mostapha Hephny, a man from Egypt claiming to be “black” but federal law says that he is “white” here), then surely a Moslem can be the president of these United States of America. Those Moslems who follow the Islam of the Great Koran of Mecca as opposed to the forged traditions found in the hadith and Sunnah, understand the true meaning of tolerance. Christians, like Jews alike, are given the upmost respect in the Great Koran for believing in the one true God. They are called the “Dhimmi” which translates as “protected person” who are also called “the people of the book.” The treaty of Medina (also called the “Constitution of Medina”), which was drafted and issued by Prophet Mohammed himself, constituted an agreement between the various Moslem (Muhajirun and Ansar), Jewish, pagan, and Christian groups in Medina, declaring them to constitute ummah wāḥidah (أمة واحدة, “one nation”), and formed the basis of a multi-religious Islamic state in Medina.
Prophet Noble Drew Ali, who we Moorish Americans accept as a true Prophet of Allah (God), born in these United States of America and founder of the first Islamic organization in the United States of America (Moorish Science Temple of America), when facing opposition from certain Christian ministers, in his Historical Message to America, relayed to the members and the general public that:
“And strange as it may seem, such opposition [to the Islamic faith] has come from sources where there were no ideas or the lack of courage to force attention to ideas. Whether in church, state or the social community, any attempt to do anything out of the usual way, seldom fails to receive criticism. Not because the course cannot be pursued legally or that it is unreasonable, but because it has been considered in terms as new. The Moorish Science Temple of America has received some opposition and criticism. In the main the opposition has come from certain Christian ministers. They have expressed themselves as being opposed to our propagation of the Mohammedan religion. Possibly because the promotion of the Mohammedan faith among our people in the United States is considered by them in terms as something new. Whatever the reasons may be for their opposition, the legal right to oppose citizens, individuals and organizations alike for their religious belief does not exist in the United States. The door of religious freedom made by the American Constitution swings open to all, and people may enter through it and worship as they desire. Without religious freedom, no search for truth would be possible; without religious freedom, no discovery of truth would be useful; without religious freedom, religious progress would be checked and we would no longer march forward toward the nobler life which the future holds for the races of men; without religious freedom, there would be no inspiration to lift our heads and gaze with fearlessness into the vast beyond, seeking a hope eternal. It is a sad weakness in us after all, to oppose our fellowmen for their religious beliefs, and if there are angels who record the sorrows of men as well as their sins, they certainly know how many and deep are the useless sorrows that spring forth from such opposition. Possibly, love and time will cancel our ancient hatreds in this regard and prove that in mankind, tolerance is better than unwarranted opposition.”
Prophet Noble Drew Ali, who taught American civics years before changing the organization from a civic to a religious organization (1913-1926), understood the values of Americanism more adeptly than most so-called leaders and politicians of today’s era and times. Prophet Noble Drew Ali would call the Constitution of these United States “one of the greatest documents of all time,” and also stated about our practice of Islam that:
“We believe in, and foster the Moslem religion. We believe in the principles of its teachings insofar they can be adapted to American life. We feel that the Christian religion is alright for those who prefer it. In America, religious freedom is guaranteed all under the constitution.”

What Prophet Noble Drew Ali instructed the Moslems of the Moorish Science Temple of America to observe, is in fact, “American” for it is in line with the great constitutional principles on which this national body politic was founded, thus, elucidated via the 1st amendment. His teachings and religious instructions were in line with the constitution of these United States and his stating of such by declaring, “insofar they can be adapted to American life,” proves without a shadow of a doubt that Noble Drew Ali brought an Americanized Islam which was in conformity with the customs here as opposed to the adoption of what is called “Sharia” by foreign Moslems which stem largely from hadith and Sunnah and not the Koran of Mecca or, misinterpretations thereof.
People like Ben Carson and those who think like him (the “majority”), should be ashamed of their bigotry and appropriately labeled hypocrites. The other great aspect about the Constitution’s 1st amendment of these United States is, “freedom of speech” because through this freedom, we can make the easy determination between those who share the values of the real America, and those who do not.
Many of the founding fathers of this American political system would be appalled at the vitriolic rhetoric spewed by the majority of today’s Americans. Several of them fought against efforts to repulse Moslems here in the West and Thomas Jefferson didn’t just own a Koran — he engaged with Islam and fought to ensure the rights of Moslems here in America.
“[He] sais “neither Pagan nor Mahamedan nor Jew ought to be excluded from the civil rights of the Commonwealth because of his religion.” — Thomas Jefferson, quoting John Locke, 1776
Mr. Carson’s views are not reflected by those who founded this great nation and people like the insipid (presumed) Christian who asked Mr. Trump about getting rid of the “Muslims” here, is not American whatsoever, but a byproduct of decades old dog-whistle politics which traces back to the plight of the descendants of Africans in this country who were for the most part, Islamic, and many rooted here long before the sons of Europe planted their flags here. In the eyes of the right wing Euro-American Christian spawns of the confederacy (rebels), a Moslem president is as worst as a so-called “Negro/Black” president for history shows us that Islam is in fact the religion of the Moors who are labeled with misnomer “black”. The holy war is a race war and Mr. Carson should not be stoking those fires to perpetuate the hate filled hearts of the bigots in America. (Read the KKK’s bigoted remarks about Islam here).
Your views Mr. Carson, and anyone who thinks like you, is indeed anti-American. Hypocritical and shameful is how I will end this communiqué.
